Onward calls for change to the systemic racism that has held a knee on the throat of Black Americans for over 400 years.
Onward Stands In Solidarity with the Black Community & All Communities of Color
We join communities across the country to protest the brutal deaths of black men and women by law enforcement. The lives of George Floyd (MN), Breonna Taylor (KY), Tony McDade (FL), David McAtee (KY), Amaud Abry (GA) and many others were needless and rooted in racism and fear. We add our voice calling for change to the systemic racism that has held a knee on the throat of Black Americans for over 400 years.
Our tax-payer funded police have lost sight of their mission to “protect & serve” the American people. We must demand change within police departments and within police unions. We share the call to end these brutal killings, dismantle the structures that uphold racism and dehumanize people of color, and redefine our country’s values based on justice, fairness, and love.
It is the job of all people of good conscience to add their voice –as we add ours—in demanding for change:
- Police departments MUST commit to full demilitarization. Military weaponry and tactics have no place in our communities, immigration systems, or our schools;
- Police MUST develop a neighborhood or community mind-set instead of a warrior mindset that views neighborhoods and communities as the enemy. At the very least, police should live in the communities they serve.
- Police MUST wear and turn on body-cameras at the point of any interaction;
- Police MUST be required to be trained in de-escalation tactics, anti-racism, and trauma-informed policing annually;
- Police MUST include victims of police abuse and their families in task forces, community oversight, and accountability measures;
- Police MUST be removed from schools.
Together we must acknowledge and remove white supremacy and racism from the laws and structures governing our legal, security, education, health, political, economic, environmental, labor and other institutions.
Onward stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and with all communities of color in our shared goal of ending systemic racism. We are great country and we can do this together.
We must.
Yes. We. Can.
Black. Lives. Matter.
